Learn the Authentic Supplication for Entering Your House with Blessing
Entering the home with the remembrance of Allah brings blessing and protection to the household. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught specific duas and etiquettes for returning home that keep Shaytan away and invite divine blessing. This guide covers authentic supplications for entering the home.
Transliteration: Allahumma inni as'aluka khayral-mawliji wa khayral-makhraji, bismillahi walajna wa bismillahi kharajna wa 'alallahi Rabbina tawakkalna
Translation: "O Allah, I ask You for the best entry and the best exit. In the name of Allah we enter, in the name of Allah we exit, and upon Allah our Lord we rely"
This comprehensive dua asks Allah for blessing in both entering and exiting the home. It acknowledges that both movements - leaving for our daily activities and returning to our sanctuary - should be in Allah's name.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) taught that when a person enters their home saying Bismillah and mentions Allah when eating, Shaytan says to his companions: "You have no place to stay and no dinner." But if Allah's name is not mentioned, Shaytan announces he's found lodging and food.
At minimum, say "Bismillah" when entering and give salam to your family, even if no one appears to be home. The Prophet said: "When you enter your home, say salam. It will be a blessing for you and your family."
Make the home a place of blessing with these practices:
At the Threshold: Recite the dua as you are about to enter or just as you step inside.
Every Return: Whether returning from work, shopping, or any outing, say the dua each time.
Enter with the Right Foot: The Sunnah is to enter the home with the right foot.
Give Salam: Greet your family or say salam even if the house appears empty.
At Minimum, Say Bismillah: If you forget the full dua, at least say Bismillah when entering.
Mention Allah When Eating: The protection continues when you say Bismillah before eating at home.
Entering with Allah's name brings numerous blessings:
Keeps Shaytan Out: When Allah's name is mentioned at entry, Shaytan cannot enter or stay.
Barakah in the Home: A home where Allah is remembered is filled with blessing.
Family Blessing: The Prophet said salam upon entering brings blessing to you and your family.
Establishes Islamic Atmosphere: Beginning entry with dhikr sets the tone for the household.
Protection: The dua asks for "the best entry" - protection from anything harmful within.
Connects Entry and Exit: The comprehensive dua covers both, creating a complete practice.
Beyond the entry dua, these practices bless the home:
Recite Quran in the Home: Especially Surah Al-Baqarah - the Prophet said Shaytan flees from homes where it's recited.
Pray at Home (for voluntary prayers): Make your home a place of worship.
Avoid Haram in the Home: Keep the home free of haram entertainment, images, and substances.
Maintain Dhikr: Regular remembrance of Allah keeps the home spiritually vibrant.
Don't Argue Excessively: Discord drives away blessing and invites negative energy.
Keep it Clean: Cleanliness is part of faith. Angels don't enter dirty homes.
Be Kind to Family: The Prophet said: "The best of you are the best to their families."
Say it as soon as you remember. The point is to remember Allah in your home as much as possible.
Yes, the angels respond to your salam. It also establishes the habit for when you have guests.
Yes, you can pray for blessing: "Allahumma barik lana fi bayitina" (O Allah, bless us in our home). Also recite Surah Al-Baqarah.
The Quran teaches to seek permission before entering others' homes. Give salam when entering after permission.
The Prophet said angels don't enter homes with images (of animate beings) or dogs. Scholars discuss exceptions and details.
Surah Al-Baqarah. The Prophet said: "Do not turn your homes into graves. Indeed, Satan flees from a house in which Surah Al-Baqarah is recited."
The Islamic home should be a refuge of peace and worship:
Establish Prayer: The Prophet prayed his voluntary prayers at home and encouraged the same. "The best prayer is in the home, except the obligatory prayers."
Read Quran Together: Family Quran sessions bring immense blessing. When people gather to recite, tranquility descends, mercy covers them, and angels surround them.
Teach Children: The home is the first madrasa. Raise children with the remembrance of Allah.
Practice Good Character: "The best of you are the best to their families." Home is where character is truly tested.
Make Dhikr Regular: A home filled with dhikr is alive; a home without dhikr is like a grave.
Keep Harmful Things Out: Media, conversations, and items that displease Allah shouldn't enter the home.
The home that remembers Allah becomes a piece of Paradise on earth.
While you return to the blessing of home, millions of children have no home to enter. In Gaza, families live in tents. Displacement has robbed them of security. Your donation to Child Relief helps provide shelter for homeless families. 100% of your donation reaches those without a place to call home.
