Fitrana FAQs

Fitrana, also known as Fitra, Fitrah, or Zakat al-Fitr, is a charitable donation given before Eid al-Fitr prayers. It is obligatory upon every Muslim who has food in excess of their needs. Fitrana purifies the fasting person from any indecent act or speech and helps those in need celebrate Eid.

The Fitrana amount for 2026 is £5 per person. This is based on the cost of one sa’ (approximately 2.5kg) of staple food such as wheat, barley, dates, or rice. The amount is set to ensure those in need can enjoy a meal on Eid day.

Fitrana (Zakat al-Fitr) and Zakat al-Maal are different obligations. Fitrana is a flat amount paid per person before Eid al-Fitr, regardless of wealth. Zakat al-Maal is 2.5% of savings above the Nisab threshold, payable any time during the year. Both are obligatory but serve different purposes.

Fitrana is obligatory (Wajib) on every Muslim who possesses food in excess of their needs for themselves and their dependents on Eid day. The head of the household pays Fitrana on behalf of all dependents, including children and elderly family members.

Zakat ul-Fitr must be paid before the Eid al-Fitr prayer. It can be given any time during Ramadan, but it is best to pay early so that your donation reaches those in need in time for Eid. We recommend paying your Fitrah by the 27th night of Ramadan to ensure timely distribution.

Yes, you can and should pay Fitrana for yourself and all your dependants. This includes your spouse, children (including newborns), and any elderly relatives you support. Simply multiply the Fitrana amount (£5) by the number of people in your household.

Yes, Sadaqat al-Fitr, Fitrana, Fitra, Fitrah, and Zakat al-Fitr all refer to the same obligatory charity given at the end of Ramadan. Different communities use different names, but the ruling and amount are the same.

Your Fitrana donation goes directly to those in need through our 100% donation policy. We distribute Fitrana as food packages to families in Gaza, Yemen, Sudan, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Rohingya communities, ensuring children and families can enjoy Eid.
